the short answer.

  • Inside, any time of year works.
  • Outside, spring and autumn are usually the easiest seasons.
  • Paint needs dry surfaces and mild temperatures to cure well.
  • Weather delays are normal. A good painter plans around them.

painting inside: any time of year.

Interior jobs aren’t tied to the weather. Open windows help paint dry and clear the smell, so mild days are nicest. But a rainy week will not stop us.

Very humid days can slow drying. We allow extra time between coats when needed.

painting outside: choose your season.

SeasonWhat to expect
SpringMild days and lower humidity. Usually the best time.
SummerHot sun can make paint dry too fast. Storms cause delays.
AutumnMild and stable weather, a close second to spring.
WinterDry days can be great, but mornings are cold and damp, and daylight is short.

what the weather does to paint.

Rain

Wet surfaces stop paint sticking. Rain soon after painting can mark or wash the finish.

Heat

Direct midday sun can dry paint too quickly, leaving marks. We plan the order of walls around the sun.

Humidity

Damp air slows drying and can cause the paint to look uneven.

Cold and dew

Cold mornings and heavy dew leave surfaces wet. We wait until they are dry.

Most paint tins list a recommended temperature range. We follow it.

when to book.

Good painters book up, especially before school holidays and before Christmas. If you have a date in mind, such as a sale, a family event or a lease end, tell us at the quote and work back from it.

For exteriors, booking a few weeks ahead gives us room to move the job if the weather turns.

what happens if it rains?

We reschedule exterior work and move to interior or prep tasks where we can. Your schedule is agreed in writing, and we keep you updated if anything moves.

common questions.

What is the best month to paint a house exterior in Sydney?

Spring and autumn, roughly September to November and March to May, tend to have the mildest and most stable weather.

Can you paint in summer?

Yes. We plan the order of walls around the sun and avoid painting surfaces in direct midday heat.

Can you paint in the rain?

Not outside. We reschedule exterior work and move indoors or to preparation tasks where possible.

Is winter a bad time to paint?

Not at all. Dry winter days can be excellent. Mornings are colder and damper, so the working day is shorter.

How far ahead should I book?

A few weeks is a good guide for most jobs, and earlier if you have a fixed date.
