understand your painting quote.
A painting quote is only useful if you know what is in it. Here is what each line means, what is usually extra and what a good quote spells out, so the price makes sense before you say yes.

the short answer.
- Read what is included, not only the total.
- A good quote lists rooms, surfaces, preparation, coats, paint and licence details.
- Preparation is the biggest swing in any price: filling, sanding and priming take time.
- Know who does the work, and who you call if something isn’t right.
why a price is what it is.
No two houses are the same, so no two prices are either. Four things move the number more than anything else.
- Preparation: filling, sanding and priming can be a small job or most of the job.
- Paint: premium paint costs more than builders grade paint, and goes further.
- Coats: two finish coats are standard, and a big colour change can need more.
- Who does the work: a licensed team you know, or subcontractors you never meet.

what we price in from the start.
We see the job at the site visit, so what the house needs goes into the written price from day one, not into a variation later.
- The repairs your walls actually need, from cracks to damaged render.
- Moving and covering your furniture, and protecting floorboards.
- Equipment for high ceilings, or scaffold on a two-storey exterior.
- An extra coat for a dark-to-light colour change.
- Old lead paint in older homes, treated safely before painting.
questions worth asking us.

- Who will be on site, and who is in charge of the job?
- When can you start?

what people ask next.
What does preparation mean on a painting quote?
It covers the work before any colour goes on: filling holes and cracks, sanding, cleaning and priming. It is usually the biggest variable in the price, because a wall in good condition takes far less than one with patching, stains or flaking paint.
What is not usually included in a painting quote?
Repairs beyond the basics, treating old lead paint, moving or masking furniture, equipment for high ceilings and extra coats for a big colour change are commonly priced separately. A good quote lists what is excluded, so nothing is a surprise.
Do I have to pay for a quote?
Not with us. Our quotes are free, and you do not have to go ahead.
Is a deposit normal?
It depends on the job. Ask what any deposit covers and when the remaining payments are due, and make sure it is all in writing.
Why do you need to see the house?
Preparation is the biggest variable, and you cannot price it from a photo. Seeing the walls lets us give you a price that will not change later.
